KWTV • EVERYDAY APP GUIDE

Get More From Your KWTV App

Find your channels faster, make the guide easier to read, save your favorites, and watch more than one game at a time. This guide walks you through the everyday features and settings that help make the KWTV app easier to use.

Before you begin: These instructions apply to the KWTV app with the grid-style TV guide. Other KWTV players may have different menus. Labels, remote shortcuts, and feature availability can vary by installed version. If a listed option is missing, check the related menu or contact support.

1. Basic Navigation: Get Comfortable With Your Remote

Most actions use the directional arrows, the center OK / Select button, and Back.

  • Move through the guide: Press Up or Down to browse channels. Press Left or Right within the program grid to browse program times.
  • Watch a channel: Highlight its current program and press OK. If it opens in a preview window, press OK again to make it full screen.
  • Return to the guide: With the usual remote configuration, press Back while watching. If playback controls are open, the first press may close those controls.
  • Change channel groups: From the guide, move Left toward the channel/group sidebar, then choose Favorites, Sports, Movies, or another available group.
  • Open additional options: In the guide, press and hold OK on a channel to open its context menu. While watching full screen, press OK to display playback controls.
  • Open Settings: Open the main sidebar/menu and select the gear icon or Settings.

Tip: If your remote behaves differently, look under Settings → Remote control. Button actions can be customized separately for the TV guide and the player.

2. Make Channel Names & Text Easier to Read

Display channel names on two lines

  1. Open Settings → Appearance → TV guide.
  2. Look for the setting controlling channel-name lines. Depending on your version, it may be labeled Channel names or Channel names on two lines.
  3. Select Two lines / 2 lines, or turn the two-line option On.
  4. Return to the guide and check a channel with a long name.

Two lines give longer station names more room. Very long names may still be shortened. If your version offers a channel-column width setting, increasing it can help, though it leaves less space for program listings.

Increase the font size

  1. Open Settings → Appearance.
  2. Look for Font size; in some versions it is inside the TV guide appearance menu.
  3. Increase the font size by one step, then return to the guide to check readability.
  4. Adjust again if necessary. Avoid making the text so large that program titles become difficult to scan.
Suggested starting point: Two-line channel names with the font one step above the default. Choose the size that is comfortable from your normal seat.

3. Set Up Your Favorites

Favorites put your most-watched channels in one convenient group.

  1. Open the TV guide and highlight a channel you want to save.
  2. Press and hold OK to open the channel menu.
  3. Select Add to favorites.
  4. Repeat for your other channels.
  5. Open the group sidebar and select Favorites to see your saved list.

Remove or rearrange favorites

To remove a channel, highlight it, hold OK, and select Remove from favorites. This removes the shortcut, not the channel from your subscription.

To change the order, open the menu while you are in Favorites and look for Reorder channels. Follow the on-screen prompts to select, move, and place each channel. If manual ordering is unavailable, check the group's sorting options and disable alphabetical sorting first.

If Manage favorites appears in your menu, you can use it to select several channels in one session. Favorites are normally saved on that device; do not assume they will automatically appear on another TV.

4. Watch Multiple Channels With Multiscreen

Multiscreen, sometimes labeled Multiview, lets you keep multiple live channels visible on one TV.

  1. Start watching your first channel full screen.
  2. Press OK to display the playback controls.
  3. Find Multiscreen / Multiview, usually represented by a multiple-window icon. Scroll through the control row if needed.
  4. Choose Add screen or the plus icon, then select another channel.
  5. Use the directional arrows to highlight a window. Open its controls to switch the active audio, change the channel, or remove that screen.
  6. To return to one channel, use the multiscreen controls to expand the desired window to full screen or close the additional screens.
Check your connection allowance: Each playing window generally uses a separate stream connection. Two channels on one TV generally require two available connections. Other TVs and active recordings may also use connections. Stay within your plan's allowance.

Start with two screens. More windows require more bandwidth and device processing power. If playback becomes unstable, remove a screen or try lower-resolution channel versions. Usually, only one window's audio plays at a time.

5. Turn Closed Captions On or Off

  1. Start watching the channel or program.
  2. Press OK to open playback controls.
  3. Select Subtitles / CC. You may need to scroll along the controls to find it.
  4. Choose an available language or caption track.
  5. To disable captions, return to the same menu and choose Off / None.

If your version offers Settings → Playback → Subtitles, you can also look there for language preferences or an option to enable subtitles by default.

Captions depend on the broadcast. If no subtitle or caption track is supplied, the app cannot create one. Captions that are permanently embedded in the video cannot be turned off through the app.

6. Refresh Your Channel Playlist

A playlist refresh retrieves the current channel lineup, including available additions and changes. It does not renew your subscription or repair an unavailable broadcast.

  1. Open Settings → Playlists.
  2. Select your KWTV playlist.
  3. Choose Update playlist.
  4. Wait for the update to finish, then return to the guide.
  5. If a new channel is missing from Favorites, check its original group or All channels. New channels are not automatically added to your favorites.

Recommended playlist settings

  • Update playlist on app start: On, if available. This helps retrieve lineup changes when the app starts.
  • Scheduled playlist updates: If your version offers an interval, once daily is a reasonable starting point. There is usually no benefit to refreshing every few minutes.
  • Manual update: Run one when KWTV announces a lineup change or a channel appears to be missing.

Waking the TV may simply resume the app and may not trigger an app-start update. If you need the latest lineup immediately, use the manual update option.

If the update fails: Confirm your internet connection and account status, restart the app, and try once more. Avoid deleting the playlist as a first step, since that can disrupt favorites and channel customization.

7. Refresh Your TV Guide / EPG

The EPG is the schedule showing program names, descriptions, and times. Channels can play normally even when the guide says “No information.”

  1. Open Settings → EPG.
  2. Select Update EPG.
  3. Allow the update to finish. Larger guides can take a few minutes.
  4. Return to the guide and check several channels.

Recommended EPG settings

Setting, if availableSuggested starting point
Update interval24 hours for everyday use. Try 12 hours if schedule changes regularly require more frequent updates.
Update on app startOn, if your version offers it.
Update on playlist changeOn, to request guide updates when the playlist changes.
Past days to keep EPG1 day if you do not use catch-up. If you do, keep enough history for the catch-up period you actually use.
EPG time offset0 / default. Correct the device's time and time zone before changing an offset.

These are practical starting points, not required service settings. Scheduled updates may depend on the app running and your device's power management. Guide retention settings do not create extra future listings or unlock catch-up.

If the guide still says “No information”

  1. Check whether this affects one channel or most of the lineup. Some channels do not have guide data.
  2. Confirm the device's date, time, and time zone are correct.
  3. Refresh the playlist, then update the EPG again.
  4. If most channels remain blank, check that the playlist has the supplied EPG source assigned. Do not replace source addresses unless support instructs you to.
  5. As a later recovery step, use Clear EPG in the EPG menu, if available, then immediately run Update EPG. The guide will remain blank until a successful download finishes.
Playlist and guide updates do different jobs: Refresh the playlist for channel lineup changes. Refresh the EPG for missing or outdated program listings.

8. Troubleshoot Buffering, Freezing & Playback Issues

First, try two or three other channels. If only one channel fails, the issue may be that channel's source. If many channels fail, check your connection, device, account, and playback settings.

Start with these simple checks

  1. Close extra streams. Exit multiscreen and stop playback on unused devices. Check for active recordings and stay within your connection allowance.
  2. Restart the app and streaming device. Use the device's Restart option; turning off the television may only put the device to sleep.
  3. Check the network. Try another streaming app. If possible, test Ethernet or a strong Wi-Fi connection. Pause large downloads while testing.
  4. Try a lower-resolution channel. If HD works but 4K struggles, bandwidth or device decoding may be a factor.
  5. Clear the app cache if needed. In your device's Settings, find Apps → KWTV app → Clear cache. Do not choose Clear data / Clear storage; those options can remove your login and setup.

Playback settings to check

Open Settings → Playback

Change one setting at a time, reopen the affected channel, and watch long enough to compare. Restore settings that do not help.

SettingStarting point & when to change it
Video decoderUse Hardware for normal viewing. If one stream has a black picture or visual corruption, briefly test Software, preferably through a per-channel override if available. Software decoding can struggle with higher resolutions; switch back if it makes playback worse.
Buffer sizeStart with Normal / default. For repeated short pauses, try Medium or Large, depending on available choices. A larger buffer may delay channel startup and live playback; it cannot fix a sustained slow connection or a failing source.
Audio decoderKeep the default initially. For sound problems, try the other decoder option and compare on the same channel.
Audio passthroughKeep Off for a simple TV-speaker setup. Enable only when your connected audio equipment supports the stream's format. Disable it as a test if you have a picture but no sound.
Auto frame rate (AFR)Keep the default unless investigating motion or display switching. Try Off if channel changes cause disruptive black screens. On a compatible setup, AFR may improve motion, but the display can briefly go black while changing refresh rate.
External playerUse the built-in player normally. If support suggests testing an external player for a difficult stream, treat it as a comparison; app controls and features may behave differently.

Match the symptom to the next step

  • Picture but no sound: Check mute/volume, choose another available audio track in playback controls, and test with passthrough off.
  • Sound but no picture: Try another channel, then test the video decoder on the affected stream.
  • Voices do not match lip movement: Reopen the channel first. If the offset is consistent, use Audio offset / Audio sync in the player's audio controls, if available, and adjust in small steps.
  • Smooth audio but jerky sports video: Confirm Hardware video decoding, close extra screens, and consider testing AFR if your display supports it.
  • A brief black screen when changing channels: This may be the TV switching display modes. Test AFR off. Repeated blackouts during steady playback also warrant checking the HDMI connection and device power supply.
  • The same scene keeps repeating: Change away and back, then test another channel. If only one channel loops, report that channel to support.
  • Every channel fails: Check account status, connection usage, internet access, and service announcements before changing numerous settings.
Avoid resetting everything at once. Clearing app data, deleting your playlist, or reinstalling can remove useful settings without fixing a source or network problem. Contact support before taking those steps.
