Downloader App Permissions Guide

Downloader App Permissions Guide

If Downloader will not install, download, or open files correctly, your device may not have the proper permissions enabled. Follow the steps below for Fire TV and Google TV devices.

Important: Downloader needs permission to install unknown apps and may also need file/storage access depending on your device.

Fire TV Devices

Step 1: Enable Developer Options

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select My Fire TV.
  3. Select About.
  4. Highlight your Fire TV device name.
  5. Click it about 7 times until Developer Options are enabled.

Step 2: Allow Downloader to Install Apps

  1. Go back to My Fire TV.
  2. Select Developer Options.
  3. Select Install Unknown Apps.
  4. Find Downloader.
  5. Turn it ON.
If you do not see Downloader listed, open the Downloader app first, then come back to this menu.

Step 3: Check App Permissions

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Applications.
  3. Select Manage Installed Applications.
  4. Select Downloader.
  5. Open Permissions.
  6. Allow any available file, storage, or media permissions.

Google TV / Android TV Devices

Step 1: Enable Developer Options

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select System.
  3. Select About.
  4. Scroll to Android TV OS Build.
  5. Click it about 7 times until Developer Options are enabled.

Step 2: Allow Downloader to Install Unknown Apps

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Select Security & Restrictions.
  4. Select Unknown Sources or Install Unknown Apps.
  5. Find Downloader.
  6. Turn permission ON.
On some Google TV devices, this option may not show until you actually try installing a file through Downloader.

Step 3: Check File / Storage Permissions

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Select See All Apps.
  4. Select Downloader.
  5. Select Permissions.
  6. Allow file, media, or storage permissions if shown.

If You Still Cannot Download Files

  1. Force close Downloader.
  2. Clear Downloader cache.
  3. Restart your device from the Settings menu.
  4. Open Downloader again.
  5. Try the download link again.
Best practice: Restart from the device settings menu instead of simply unplugging the device.

Common Permission Problems

  • Downloader opens but will not install: Unknown Apps permission is probably OFF.
  • Downloader says file cannot be accessed: Storage or file permission may be blocked.
  • Downloader is missing from the permission list: Open Downloader first, then try again.
  • Unknown Sources menu is missing: Try installing the file first, then the device may prompt you to allow it.
